Well, yes…

It isn’t as though a company can afford to hire the wrong fit.  So if you’re a dependable employee who is perfect for the job, you shouldn’t simply jump at the chance for an interview.

If you’ve been called in the early morning for an afternoon interview even though you have plans, do not take the interview.  Explain you have plans but could reschedule for tomorrow or the day after.

It isn’t about simply being an applicant for a job, it’s about being a person.  A person whose life should still take precedent over a sudden opportunity.

If a company offers you a job but it isn’t some place with growth opportunity for your future, will you take it?

Why? If it isn’t made to fit you and you’re not a fit for the company based upon your expectations why would you?

Imagine starting a relationship simply because it presented itself.  You wouldn’t, if a partner offered no opportunity for future growth in a relationship, would you purse it? No…a job is no different.

So it isn’t about playing hard to get.  Truly it’s about not letting go of your expectations.  A company needs good, honest and hard working employees.  If you’re one, don’t settle for a company that won’t appreciate your skills or give you room to do your best work.

Move past the unemployment line and move toward jobs that you’re qualified for today.  To often people believe their education or lack of education will hold them back for a position in which their trying to get hired.

Well here are 4 jobs that are open to anyone without a four-year degree.  So I present to you the best jobs without a degree.

1. Forensic Artist: A great job without a degree.  This is a no degree job for anyone looking at a possible career change without serious financial or educational investment.
2. Forensic Animator: Jobs with no degree seem impossible to find but here is another one for anyone interested.
3. Air Traffic Controller: This is my idea of one of the best jobs without a four year degree.
4. Orthopedic Technologist: Find jobs without degrees in the dental field.

This is a small sample of 4 types of jobs that require no college degree to hold the position.

CareerBuilder has their opinion on this matter.  I don’t necessarily think that experience is a requirement for a hire.  Depending upon the hire.  With the type of “restructuring” in 2008 – 2010, for companies now it’s all about new hires.

Even if you’re experienced in what the position requires, most likely, you’ll be doing more than your share of work.  So it isn’t that experience isn’t necessary, it’s mostly the skills to keep oneself on task and focused on goals.  Also being able to create and maintain your own goals.

So if you want to beat the experience card, you should talk about your methods you use to keep yourself on task and maintain focus. Also how you create goals to accomplish in the future.

That should be a good counter to any worry of your ability to fulfill a position.

Examples of our past accomplishments.  That’s all employers want.  It’s simple.  Think back to when you’ve actually measured a goal in work and accomplished it.  There is only 1 problem I see with this answer from employers.  Are you (employers) making sure each goal you’re trying to accomplish is explained and quantified to their (employees) level?

Many times employers hire employees when they need to fill a gap or meet an newly recognized demand.  So I worry that an employee would get hired simply to fill a need but may not be filled in on the story of their reason for being hired.

Now to the question of the day; Have you ever had a job where you weren’t sure why you were doing anything? Or ever have a simple job that wasn’t explained beyond the duty itself and the actions you needed to take each day?

Bring up salary before you are offered a job isn’t a problem for you.  It’s a problem the interviewer.  It makes people feel uncomfortable. So refrain from that type of conversation.

Even if you do feel like negotiating for your salary, I’d suggest doing it after an offer has been extended.  It’s not all about how much you get paid, sometimes they will speak about benefits and opportunities not mentioned in the interview.

That can be part of a company negotiating with you if you’re a highly in demand employee.  So don’t worry.  Truly landing an offer is an accomplishment for many people in today’s market.  It means they probably really want you for the job.

Be yourself.  That’s a pretty common slogan until you enter a job interview.  Then being yourself can cause you longer time collecting unemployment.

It’s a bit odd that being to personal can create a bias from employers.  As the Career Builder article says, “Though it’s illegal for employers to discriminate against applicants because of any of these factors, some will do so, regardless.”

That’s a little sad but I guess we have to accept that some employers will be discriminatory. It’s all part of the job search game that seems to have changing rules everyday.

There is something to be said about enthusiasm.  What Ralph Waldo Emerson said summs it up best, “Nothing great was ever achieved with enthusiasm.”  So when you walk into an interview, it’s hard to expect a great outcome if you’re not too enthusiastic.

I don’t agree that being boring is necessarily a disqualification for a position.  If you’re hiring for an executive or spokesperson position for your company, maybe, but also there is something to be said for a person who is calm under-fire.

Being cocky should get you booted from the job.  There is a level of entitlement that has come along in the recent generations that doesn’t seem to overwhelm us Gen Xer’s.  We are fortunate for this because we shouldn’t worry about not being selected because we are too cocky.

Being disinterested shouldn’t be a major factor for not hiring.   Maybe they are bored because they are overqualified for the position but need it because UI benefits are running out.  I agree we need to be enthusiastic but why wouldn’t someone be enthusiastic about a job, that’s the real question.  Also, we didn’t even get to that maybe the job isn’t interesting.
